Piccadilly Jim, de PG Wodehouse, a été publié pour la première fois le 24 février 1917 par Dodd, Mead and Company à New York. Il a ensuite été publié à Londres en mai 1918 par Herbert Jenkins. Il est basé sur un article initialement publié dans le Saturday Evening Post du 16 septembre au 11 novembre 1916. Le livre suit Jimmy Crocker, alias « Piccadilly Jim », qui tente d’échapper à sa réputation de plus en plus mauvaise en retournant à New York depuis Londres.

En chemin, il rencontre Ann Chester dont il tombe amoureux et accepte de l’aider à kidnapper Ogden, son cousin, pour son propre bien. Leurs plans tournent mal et se compliquent lorsque des usurpations d’identité, des explosifs et un détective déterminé se mettent en travers de leur chemin.
